Our MCM today is none other than Mr Golden Balls himself, having remained the nations male sweetheart for near enough the last three decades; it is no surprise that after a hugely successful football career this man has gone on to become a businessman, model and spokesperson due to his insatiable like ability. If you haven’t already guessed, the man i’m referring to is indeed David Beckham OBE.
Known for his range of passing, and undeniable ability to ‘bend it like Beckham’ (bending free-kicks), Beckham has been a runner up in the Ballon d’Or and in 2004 he was named by Pelé in the FIFA 100 list of the world’s greatest living football players. A global ambassador for the sport, Beckham is regarded as a British Cultural Icon, often depicting British trends wherever he may be internationally (may I remind you of the man buns, and Craig David 00’s trend of cornrows).
Beckhams success as a footballer do indeed talent but is more so attributed to his hard work, discipline and practice; these factors have cemented a legacy that can only expand over time as it’s foundation is a strong base.
In fact in May 2013, when asked about how he wanted to be remembered in his retirement, Beckham said, “I just want people to see me as a hardworking footballer, someone that’s passionate about the game, someone that – every time I stepped on the pitch – I’ve given everything that I have, because that’s how I feel. That’s how I look back on it and hope people will see me.”
This is exactly how he’s viewed my fans, teammates and even his old manager. “Beckham is Britain’s finest striker of a football not because of God-given talent but because he practises with a relentless application that the vast majority of less gifted players wouldn’t contemplate.”
Former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson.
There is so much more to be said for Beckhams legacy and success, but i’m sure he’ll feature in a Major Keys at some point.
You see GD’ers talent will only get you so far, practice will place you further.
Do not happen upon any old task, happen to the task. Make a difference, pave a way and elevate expectations.
Until next time be good to yourselves, kind to others and above all GROW DAILY.
