#MCM – Marcus Garvey

Our MCM today was a Jamaican born leader of a mass movement called Pan Africanism (which still exists within the Caribbean to this day) and founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL). Held in high esteem worldwide and a prominent figure in many a “Motherland Movement”, I present to you Marcus Garvey.

Though most American Black leaders condemned his methods and support of racial segregation, what they failed to realise was that Garveyism / was a movement hoping to uplift, better and unite an entire people whom at the time were being segregated and divided even amongst them selves; by the hue of their melanin (within slavery). Garvey and many other nationalists thought not to battle for equality, instead hoping to return to the African Continent and build great economies for their own (as had they laboured for Europeans/caucasians for many years). You must know where you’ve come from, to know how best to advance yourself beyond expected limitations.

Pan-Africanism is a worldwide intellectual movement that aims to encourage and strengthen bonds of solidarity between all people of African descent. Based upon a common fate going back to the ‘Slave Trade’ the movement extends beyond continental Africans, with a substantial support base among the African diaspora in the Caribbean, Latin America and the United States. There is also an increasing amount of Black British Born people whom are completely engulfed in being ‘woke’ and regaining ethereal/regal behaviours and culturally aligned characters that bring them closer to their ‘roots’. Pan Africanism is based on the belief that unity is vital to economic, social, and political progress and aims to “unify and uplift” people of African descent. The ideology asserts that the fate of all African peoples and countries are intertwined.
At its core Pan-Africanism is “a belief that African people both on the continent and in the diaspora, share not merely a common history, but a common destiny”. One of greatness I believe.

Wether you relate to the above aim, or are simply in support of people of all shapes, races and faces being encouraged to excel and exceed beyond limitations of improper hierarchy’s; the below can be taken from the legacy of Marcus Garvey and used to elevate others and ourselves. Elevate your mind and you will succeed far beyond the boundaries of your environment.

You must release yourself .. RISE, but not rise with the singular objective of personal advancement, but the advancement of a whole race; for, *in the words of Garvey* “the ends you serve that are selfish will take you no further than yourself; but the ends you serve that are for all, in common, will take you even into eternity”.

Look at humanity now, we are seeing dire affects of global warming and social unrest due to greed and selfishness of small collectives.
Let the race as above mentioned be applied to the human race, stand up for one and other, lift each other up and unify for this world; when well looked after .. Is big and beautiful enough for us all!

Until next time be good to yourselves, kind to others and above all GROW DAILY.
