Our WCW is the epitome of class, intelligence and elegance, whom set the highest of standards of how supportive a wife can be. An author, activist and highly respected civil rights leader, I present to you the Coretta Scott King (27.04.1927-30.01.2006) wife of the late Martin Luther King Jnr.
Commonly referred to as the first lady of the civil rights movement Mrs King was a prominent figure in the fight for equality, most notably for racial equality; however Mrs King also became active in the woman’s movement and in 1993 would go on to urge that there be an amendment of the Civil Rights Act to include gays and lesbians as a protected class. Due to the above and so much more, it is no surprise that Mrs King was a winner of the Ghandi Peace Prize. Mrs King was also pivotal in the process of getting her husbands birthday (third Monday of January each year, which is around King’s birthday, January 15. ) made into Martin Luther King Jr day,  a federal holiday.
In honour of Mrs Kings legacy, i’ll leave you with three quotes of hers that remain ever valid and influential.
THE CORE OF A MAN OF CHARACTER + GREAT CONVICTION
“Women, if the soul of the nation is to be saved, I believe that you must become its soul.”
Do not wait for a changed man, influence the change in young boys/men; nurture them to be kind, considerate, and knowledgable. Support them to be leaders, teach them accountability for their actions and strengthen their souls; so that they remain internally at peace though they may face external hardship.
DO NOT FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE
“No injustice, no matter how great, can excuse even a single act of violence against another human being.”
Your reaction changes the impact of an action!! <— 💎Let not the wicked overhaul the wins of the great.
BE INCLUSIVE BY WAY OF UNDERSTANDING RATHER THAN INTOLERANT BY WAY OF IGNORANCE
“Homophobia is like racism and anti-semitism and other forms of bigotry, in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity and personhood.”
You do not have to like another life choices, but you must accept and attempt to understand our differences. Aim to impact more than your immediate environment within your successes, those are the truly remarkable wins that often make history.
Until next time be good to yourselves, kind to others and above all GROW DAILY.
