#WCW – Halle Berry

Our WCW has often been cited by many publications as the most beautiful woman in the world, though this lady is certainly much more than her stunning exterior; with her activism proving that she cares about the earths atmosphere also, the lady i’m referring to is Halle Berry.

As the only black actress to have won ‘Best Actress Academy Award’ for her stellar performance in Monster Ball, Berry has acclaimed much recognition worldwide for her acting, strong will and exceptional beauty. Some of Berrys most notable performances are often found in action/thriller/sci fi films such as Gothika, Xmen, Catwoman and the perfect stranger to name a few. Having success in a genre were not many lead actresses are of colour is something that many applaud Berry for doing.

Speaking of notable, one of the most notable campaigns Berry has supported and testified for is a bill that protects celebrity children from harassment by photographers. The bill was successfully passed in September 2013.
Another campaign Berry was in support of was the 2006 campaign against the Cabrillo Port Liquefied Natural Gas facility that was proposed off the coast of Malibu. Berry said, “I care about the air we breathe, I care about the marine life and the ecosystem of the ocean. In May 2007 this facility was vetoed by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Along her life thus far Berry has also been at the centre of much commentary surrounding her race and thoughts regarding the latter. Berry has stated that her biracial background (Born to an African-American father and a white mother) was “painful and confusing” when she was a young woman, and she made the decision early on to identify as a black woman because she knew that was how she would be perceived. This led to many refuting the comment that you could ‘choose’ your race, finding it dismissive and ignorant.
However having had children since that comment Berry’s stance seems to of been altered as she said this of her daughter Nahla: “I feel she’s black, I’m black and I’m her mother, and I believe in the one-drop theory,” (said in an interview with Ebony magazine).
Nonetheless, Hale Berry currently has a new movie out called: Kidnap – which follows a mother who tries to rescue her abducted son from dangerous kidnappers.

The plot reminds of Liam Neesons Taken and will be very interesting to watch the hero be a woman, a mother.

If you have watched the movie, please do let us know your thoughts, also do you think this role portrayal was strengthened due to Halle being a mother herself, or do you think an actress who is not yet a mother could of done the role justice?

Until next time be good to yourselves, kind to others and above all GROW DAILY.
